The Audacity to Tell God No

I downloaded David Platt’s book, Radical: Taking Back Your Faith from the American Dream last night knowing this was going to be very challenging. Chapter Two provided a very thought provoking couple of paragraphs.

In our evil we rebel against God. We take the law of God, written in his word and on our hearts, and we disobey it. This is the picture of the very first sin in Genesis 3. Even if God has said not to eat from the tree of knowledge, we are going to do it anyway.

We spurn our Creator’s authority over us. God beckons storm clouds, and they come. He tells the wind to blow and the rain to fall, and they obey immediately. He speaks to the mountains, “You go there,” and He says to the seas, “You stop here,” and they do it. Everything in all creation responds in obedience to the Creator…until we get to you and me. We have the audacity to look God in the face and say, “No.”

Let that sink in for just a minute. We say no to the very God that breathes life into us every single day of our life. Who do we think we are! Cool thing is He still loves us in spite of our evil nature! You still love God when he tells you no to something you have been praying about, don’t you? Aren’t you glad He knows we are not perfect?

What is it God has been speaking to you about? Is it something recent or maybe something you have been saying no to for years. Today purpose in your heart to commit to whatever it is. Have the faith to walk through the door that has been opened for you and see what He accomplishes through your willingness to say, YES!”

What is HE Up To?

“That’s why we should wake up each day on the lookout for the Story of God, constantly thinking to ourselves, God is already here. What is He up to?“

I read those words today in, i am not but i know I Am. Sounds like such simple advice….yet for some reason difficult to follow. Is it because we are so engrossed with what we want, that what God’s wants gets zero attention? Maybe it is because we are scared of where He is leading. Only you can provide an answer as to the why for you. Will today be the day you put all fear, regrets and insecurities to rest and say, “what are you up to God and where do I fit in to Your story?” Sounds like a life changing plan!

Awake My Soul

While taking a break from reading , i am not but I know I AM, I ran across the song, “Awakening” by Chris Tomlin. What an amazingly powerful song for this season of prayer and fasting. The words” “awake my soul, awake my soul and sing” immediately spoke to me. What beautiful words to cry out to our First Love!

My desire is to experience a fresh awakening with each new day. To reignite the passion for serving the Lord and others. Stovall Weems sums it up with this sentence,

“Awakening to the presence and power of God is both a one-time event and a recurring newness we experience throughout our lives.”

God is waiting for us to cry out, awake my soul! What is stopping you?

It’ A New Day

The first snow of the year has fallen in the last 24 hours and it is beautiful. To make it an even better day it is the beginning of Awake21! I am pumped about what God is wanting to do in 2011!

During my quiet time this morning a song from years ago came to mind,” I Just Want To Be Where You Are” by Don Moen. (video, lyrics) The words were so fresh, simple and yet so powerful. So many times we(myself included) have good intentions to find daily time in prayer, reading our Bible and somehow it gets lost in our daily grind. Thankfully we serve a God who loves and cares for us. One that waits patiently for us to “get our act together” and follow through with what we started. My prayer is THIS will be THAT year!

“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Joel 2:12, NIV

May our love for Christ increase and our passion for Him be reignited in 2011!
